This semester, students are responsible for 1 co-curricular essay. This will be a shorter essay, written to encourage application of historical concepts to contemporary society. As a Global Learning core class, students are required to complete 1 co-curricular activity. This basically means the students should engage in a meaningful graded activity that involves interacting with the course beyond the class materials.
The most important part of the essay is to connect the topic to information covered in our course curriculum.
- This is meant to be a “reflective” assignment, whereby students can reflect on a concern in today’s word that is of special interest, and relate that interest back to the course materials. In other words, pick a topic in the news, an issue that has an impact on modern society, something occurring in the world today of social, political and economic significance, and then write a 1-2 page essay relating that issue back to themes and topics we have discussed in class.
Your essay must clearly identify which TTR you watched and how it reflects themes or topics covered in the course curriculum. Connecting the video to our course curriculum is the most important part of the essay. The essay will be 1-2 pages.
Whichever option is chosen, students should consider how new perspectives introduced through course readings and assignments can help resolve the problem or issue discussed at the event. It should also consider how the event itself provides other perspectives on the problem.
